Building Stonger Futures Together

-
You find yourself getting irritated over the smallest things. The irritation builds up to an explosion and those around you are hesitant to communicate with you out of concern you may blow up.
-
You've tried several strategies to manage your anger without the success you would like. Now it's impacting your relationships with those you love.
-
Your anger may be impacting your ability to thrive and succeed in business or at work. If you could just get a handle on the anger, you could accomplish so much more.
-
When you are able to control your anger, you have aggressive, violent thoughts pop into your mind. And sometimes you find yourself dwelling on those thoughts.

Signs You May Have an Anger Management Issue
While everyone may experience challenges with anger differently, below are some common struggles men with anger management issues may face:

You are Quick to Anger
It seems that the smallest things can cause an anger reaction. Others may comment on why you are getting angry over such a small thing which brings on more frustration and anger.

Verbal Aggression
When angry, you may find yourself yelling, screaming, and/or saying hurtful things to those you love. You feel bad afterward and a feeling of guilt settles in but you find it's a pattern that keeps repeating.

Physical Aggression
When you are angry, you act out physically by punching walls, kicking things, throwing and breaking things. You may even act out physically towards people close to you.

Aggressive Cycle
After you act out verbally and/or physically, you feel guilty and ashamed. You have made promises in the past to not act this way and were intent in keeping your promise. Yet you find yourself repeating this cycle without much change.

Counseling for Men Can Help You Manage Your Anger
There are many reasons why a man may struggle with anger. It could be due to his upbringing and what was role modeled for him regarding how to handle life stressors. It could be part genetics where a man's father also struggled with anger. It may be due to childhood abuse. Or a combination of all or more of these things.

Regardless the reason, we know that anger has caused pain and heartache for you and for those who love you. We also understand the role anger plays in limiting a man's ability to truly succeed in life to the level he is capable of. Anger limits a man in almost all areas of his life.

At Katy Counseling for Men, we will help identify what the root cause is for your challenges with anger. We will also help you find ways to learn to manage the anger so that the anger no longer manages you.

Katy Counseling for Men & Approaches to Anger Management
Like any other struggle or challenge a man may face, with hard work, consistency, and determination, you can be successful in being able to manage your anger. At Katy Counseling for Men, we have various approaches that can help you in that pursuit.
Below are several of our counseling approaches for anger management that are supported by research and shown to be effective.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT is one of the more well-known & effective approaches to anger management. CBT combines how thoughts affect feelings, teaches self-regulation skills that helps calm the nervous system, & can help your brain change to no longer need anger as a primary outlet.
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)
Supported by research, ART works to process the way in which troubling memories and images are stored in the brain. Many of these memories and images have not been fully integrated and can continue to cause distressing emotions & reactions.
Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR was developed in the 1980's. EMDR is supported by research and widely used for trauma therapy and PTSD treatment. EMDR works to help "stuck" trauma that has not been fully processed by the brain to process this information. Once the traumatic information has been finally processed, the problematic emotions dissipate.
Board Certified Neurofeedback
Neurofeedback works directly with the brain. We identify areas of the brain by recording how your brain is performing and train those areas of the brain that are creating the problems with anger. A very non-invasive, comfortable, & even enjoyable approach to anger management without the need to talk about the problems.
What Are the Obstacle in Your Way in Starting Anger Management Counseling?
As men, we usually try just about anything to learn to manage our anger before we choose to go to therapy. It usually takes things getting really bad to finally make that decision.

We may have reasons like:

-
"I just don't have the time."
-
"I can do this on my own."
-
"How is therapy going to help by just talking about my anger?"
-
"I don't want to spend the money on therapy."
-
"It hasn't gotten that bad."

If after reading through this page, you can identify with some or much of what has been written, the time to start counseling for men for anger management is before it does get worse. You have people in your life that you love. And these people love you and want you to be meaningful part of their lives.

You have untapped potential that may be blocked by problems with anger. The more time that goes by without meaningful change in your anger management is more time where your potential remains untapped.

When men take on most challenges that may create doubt, uncertainty, and may be difficult, we usually see that man as a strong man. For example starting a new career, a new position, or choosing to train for a marathon.

Does counseling for men create some doubt, uncertainty, and feel difficult to think about? And if you choose to engage in counseling for men, would that not also show strength? Some food for thought.
